Sex reversal

After visiting MD and seeing Forest, I did a search and found if a pullet's left ovary is damaged it will begin to produce more testosterone. The pullet will develop larger comb and wattles, hackle feathers and never produce eggs. She might might also crow.

Re: Sex reversal

Yes definatley onto to something NS.  So it seems she will take on the appearance of a rooster on the outside but be a hen that doesn't produce eggs on the inside.  I bet this happens very rarely.  Funny thing she has the body size and colouring of a pullet, it will be interesting to see how she matures.

Re: Sex reversal

I thought Forest was lovely.  Lovely temperament!  I bet you could find a pet home if you didn't have the space for him/her!  I eat some of mine but not the cuddlers. :net:

That's right Claire. You can't eat them if you give them a name or cuddle them. So Glen Back Away from The
Chicken :layer: Oh Yes  and just in Case.

When all else fails, go spend time with your chickens. :)

Pens are currently filled with Red Cuckoo (Marraduna) and Red Basque (Gorria) breeders, Spitz, and Seramas.

LOL... I'm happy to see the confirmation!  I'm such a medical geek anyway... you'd think after being away from the field for 13 years I'd not be, but old habits die hard!

I'm off to get a bit-o breakfast...
(Hmmm... I know, Eggs on toast again!  :funny:  )

For some reason I can't get Aerosmith's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" out of my head... even though we've been talking about the reverse!

My best!
