Re: mixed flock

Nice bunch!  I thought I could sight sex my Welsummer babies too last year.  Some lines it works others not so much.  It always worked with my own chicks but I bought some hatching eggs and they didn't sex that way.

Herd of Brown Swiss, a few sheep, red cuckoo basque, Silverspangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben, ameraucanas(EE), Welsummer, broodie silkies and a few more heritage hens

Lovely pictures. I especially like the fuzzy bum shots. :hatch:

Lovely chicks!

Boy, I hadn't realized that orpingtons look like little trucks even as chicks! Gorgeous!

Re: mixed flock

What a cute little flock. They are perfect. I can see the little feather legger EO :)
Are you using little elastic leg bands NS? I bought some in size 4,5 and 6 to use this spring. I am hoping they will work well until the babies are big enough for a spiral leg band.

Re: mixed flock

I got the leg bands too. But I didn't get size 4 and the five is a little too big for them. One fell off already. I might have to take them off and band them in a week. I think you will be good with size four on the day olds.

Claire, I'm thrilled my second hatch went so well. I only wish I got a few more EOs. I had 5 eggs that didn't pip. Two pipped low and never got out of the shell. I didn't notice the one pipped low until everyone else was hatched. If I noticed I could have taken it out of the egg carton to give it a chance.

Re: mixed flock

Oh the new pictures are beautiful, what a bunch of lovely babies.  One of the reason I don't do the eggs carton hatch is because you can't see if any of them have pipped low, I lost a bunch that way.  So they all hatch on their sides on the tray, that way I can see everything.

NS, again........:congrats:
