Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

Rosaline was a character in Romeo & Juliet if I remember rightly. Or you could call her Paris even  though in the play Paris was male.

Some of us are driven by the need to make animals a part of our lives. We are soothed by their presence, fascinated by their behavior, and amused by their antics.

Well JEC's girl was named Caremel at first I do believe. Not going to help with your theme at all I guess is it

Wow did you get the from hatching Marraduna eggs? Or do you have a source for Gorria?

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

Sorry, I never studied Shakespeare in high school, just Oscar Wilde and Charles Dickens so am no help at all.

There are Gorria up here, I don't know of any pure lines, I think Black Horse Ranch had the odd Gorria hen in with the Maradunnas.   So Susan (and we) are hoping to get some back out.  Juliet is very close to the colour our Gorria hens were.

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

Claire I think you are right. I am not certain where Susan's rooster is from (I don't recall a gorria boy in the ones she got from me but i could be forgetting) but several girls were hatched from Black Horse Ranch birds last year.

Also maybe I am wrong about Caremel being the new Juliet. Caremel had yellow shanks. Does Juliet have yellow shanks, they look white in the picture.

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

All three originated from PG, and therefore BHR. JCE,s hen and my cockeral and pullet. ( Yup, he was a little gorria boy, we thought at first to be a girl pG and he just got darker and darker) I'm quite pleased with him! All three have very yellow legs- I don't think setting them on the orange bin was a good idea.
More gorria type babies have hatched out from my "group mating" so we'll see how they grow up.

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

Okay that makes sense! I have two more girls also BHR for April delivery. At some point a cross with some of the marraduna from Claire might need to be considered to combat inbreeding. I guess that's what your new babies might be.

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

I like Juliet a lot she does appear to have white skin, even her beak is white but white skin is only one gene and hopefully she has recessive yellow and produces 50% yellow skinned offspring.

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

Well, you guys are right, of the three, she has the least yellow, but I still think they are yellow. Her beak is definitely much lighter though. I don't think JCE feeds corn. I am starting to give her some and see if that makes a difference. I find diet brings out the colours more or less that are already present.

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

Her feet were yellow but, Susan is right I don't feed corn, after  a little bit of corn she should be good.

Re: Romeo, Juliet, and ???

Wasn't Rosaline Romeo's love before Juliet came along? You could call her Rosie...bit boring though. Ophelia sounds better...or Lady MacBeth.....
