Re: Round one at 12 wks

Lol how did you take that first pic MD? It looks like you were hovering over them as I don't see your feet. They are looking lovely!  I'd call the hen in the last pic "mousy" lots of grey mixed into the brown.

You can see my feet on the left of the first photo... I tried to edit them out, but I didn't want to lose the one pullet!

They are NOT photo cooperative. :duh:

Re: Round one at 12 wks

Glen,

Gorgeous birds! Thanks for posting the pics...

Your red/grey girl looks like my Plum - lays a nice egg, is very cuddly with me, and rules her coop of girls with an iron beak! She's the reason I had to remove the 3 little sussex layers.... =D

Can we see more pics of the pullets? I am still trying to learn about their colouring and you have a lovely variety... (and great camera skills!).

When all else fails, go spend time with your chickens. :)

Pens are currently filled with Red Cuckoo (Marraduna) and Red Basque (Gorria) breeders, Spitz, and Seramas.

Re: Round one at 12 wks

They are looking good.  There is a large variety in sizes of your cockerels.  I would be tempted to use that big white legged cockerel on some of the best coloured yellow legged pullets.

Herd of Brown Swiss, a few sheep, red cuckoo basque, Silverspangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben, ameraucanas(EE), Welsummer, broodie silkies and a few more heritage hens

Re: Round one at 12 wks

Very nice looking birds Glen.  The roosters all seem to be somewhat uniform in colour   My two hatches I had quite a few with a lot of dark grey.  Nice wheaton coloured pullets as well.
The pullet has some grey but not much, she at least has a lot of red/wheaton in her.
They look great   Yes they are hard to photograph, they are usually too interested in what you are doing, nice diversion with the food

Re: Round one at 12 wks

Those boys look huge compared to the ladies.
2 darker pullets are what we are looking for? Or the 2 lighter ones? Or are both good?
They sure look good to me.

NS typically the EO pullets should look like the ones at 9 and 2 o'clock in the first picture.  The butterscotch coloured ones I call them. =D

These chooks are only 12 weeks Let's give them credit - can one of you mods fix the thread title? They hatched around the 14th of Nov...

Re: Round one at 12 wks

Great pictures and lovely healthy, beautiful chickens.  They look content.  I love the flower petal chicken pics.  So I learnrd if you want them looking at the camera, you don't give them the scratch til after the pictures.  They are extra nosy when they think they need a treat.  I have to chuckle at my pullets in with Specky, the whole group runs to whatever side of their run I am on and plasters themselves up against the wire jostling for position and begging mercilessly, and all because the feed garbage pails are right by the run.

Looks like you have couple of Blondies too, to the right, and even bottom left in the top pic.  Pretty hens.  It is so nice to have photo record of them all throughout their lives.
