Barn Pictures (for Susan)

Well Susan here are my barn pictures.....finally.  I took these today as you can see we have no snow for Christmas and is quite mild.  The larger section used to be the drive and storage shed for the Sheffield Public School in Sheffield, ON the school house is limestone and about 140 years old.  The shed was dismantled and moved to out property in 1945 and in the 60's the longer portion was added on.  It is not the typical Ontario farm barn, but over the years it has housed pigs and horses and of course............chickens.  The whole upper portion of the barn is were the chickens call home and most of them have windows to look out.  The small shed out the front with the lattice enclosure is my goose house and pen.

Re: Barn Pictures (for Susan)

:thanks: !! OMG it is gorgeous! I love that I can see a chicken looking out the window!  Question though, what is a good house? I can't believe how green it is there. We are warm, but still have snow on the ground. Everything else is brown. Thank you for sharing those pics, I ill look at them many times. I love the history behind old buildings and am always fascinated by old abandoned houses and out buildings when driving past them. Someday, maybe I'll get out and explore one. Barns are my favorite! I think its so cool that your birds are housed in a building that is almost 1 and a half centuries old :) :)

Re: Barn Pictures (for Susan)

What a lovely barn. I also enjoyed the chooks looking out the window. It looks so complicated with the different levels and garage door and windows. Perfect for many uses I'm sure.

And I can't believe the green grass! We have had the most amazing warm winter so far with very little snow but nothing like that.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Barn Pictures (for Susan)

Oopps Susan that was a typo on my part, as am a bit dyslexic, as you can tell by my times I edit something, LOL  It was to say goose house and pen :funny:  Well it always seems to need some kind of repairs and this year we had the barn board replaced on the west side of the barn, that faces the road.  It's the side that gets the prevailing winds and was getting very sad.  The chooks that are looking out the window are my BLRW, the window with the plastic is the EO's .

Yep it was a pretty green Christmas, but heck haven't had to deal with much frozen water this winter

Claire, like I said at our last get together at Lynn's, next time my place for dinner and barn tour when the weather gets warmer. :eat:

Re: Barn Pictures (for Susan)

Yes PG it's kind of a hodge podge barn not the typical Ontario barn.  The last owners had horses in the bottom so that's why there are so many windows along the bottom that are now boarded up, and previous to them they had piggies.

Re: Barn Pictures (for Susan)

I really enjoyed your barn pictures and would love to come by and see your EO chickens sometime.  I pick up my feed from Gerrie's (Sheffield).  Are you far from there?  I'm in Dundas.  Love the story as well.

Re: Barn Pictures (for Susan)

Hey Susan:
No I am not far from Settler's Supply at all, that's were I get my feed as well.  It was through Gerrie's son Marty that I found out the history of my barn as he is a local history nut.  Sure just send me a PM if you are coming this way and if I am going to be home, you are more than welcome to come over.

Hey Paula maybe Amblecroft would like to join us for breakfast on Sunday. Everyone is welcome but EO Nuts are doubley welcome.
