Copied form Lys goaty post! =D

Azpigorri is a basque word. Well, Azpi means 'debajo' in Spanish/ 'under' in English. Gorri/Gorria is red (rojo in Spanish).

Euskal=Basque=Vasco/a

Oiloa/k=Hen=Gallina/s

Oilarra/k=Rooster=Gallo/s

Re: Add your chicken words here....

The EO is sometimes referred to in articles as "la gallina vasca" or "the Basque chicken."
"Gallo" is "rooster"; "Gallina" is hen. (Oh!  I see that we already had that.)

Reading their standards:
Cabeza          head
Cara          face
Cresta          comb
Barbillas          wattles  (translates as "chins" :) )
Orejillas          earlobes (translates as "lugs")
Pico          beak
Ojos          eyes
Cuello          neck
Tronco          trunk
Dorso          back
Pecho          chest
Abdomen          abdomen
Cola          tail
Extremidades          extremities (wings & legs)
Alas           wings
Muslos          thighs
Tarsos          shanks
Esclavina          hackles
Caireles          saddle feathers
Barrado         barred pattern
Las remeras primarias y secundarias           primary and secondary flight feathers ("remaras" translates as "T-shirts")
Baremo a utilizar          measures of utility; production characteristics

coloración de cáscara = color of the egg shells
          coloración = coloration
cáscara = egg shells (translates as "rind")

Everything I've posted so far has been Spanish --> English.

This article (http://euskaloiloa.wordpress.com/variedades/) was in Basque, so I got a few of those as well.

autoktonoak          native
oilo          chicken
eginiko oilo-arraza           native chicken race (breed)
belarritxo gorriekin          "ear red" red earlobe
azal horikoa          "skin yellow"
ertainekoa          medium
gandor (plural: gandorra)         comb ("crest")
gandor soil eta ertainekoa            "crest single and medium" medium-sized single comb
Oilarrak/oilarrarenak/Oilarraren         roosters/rooster (?) (perhaps one is an adjective form of the word, like "typical of roosters"?)
Oiloarena/Oilarraren/oiloaren         hens/hen (?)
Burua: head
Aurpegia: face
Kokotsak: wattles
Belarritxoak: earlobes
Mokoa: beak
Begiak: eyes
Lepoa: neck
Enborra: trunk
Bizkarraldea: back
Bularra: chest
Sabelaldea: abdomen
Isatsa: tail
Gorputzadarrak: limbs/extremities
Hegoak: wings
Isterrak: thighs
Hankak: shanks
AKATS LARRIAK: disqualifications

Okay.  My head is spinning (but that was too much fun.)

 Awesome.  Thanks for the translations!  A lot of these you couldn't even guess!  No germanic roots!

Re: Add your chicken words here....

My poor babies were really talking today.  :chook:  They all got rearranged into their breeding pens last night and some of the young roos went in the batch pen.  I went in the run to see how they were first thing this morning, and I had a bunch of cling-ons trying to get on my knee.  Mostly they were EOs, with the odd chantecler and my little pet non-breeder EO roo from 2010 flew across to get on me, silly boy. What was cool is that I noticed my spare enormous Lav Orp Roo was kind of looking after the young dudes before I went in.  My wheaten Amerauacanas hens were clingy too.

I used Google Translate and Babelfish.  The latter has a function which lets you put in a url and it will translate the entire page.  Then, I looked back at the original to use context to figure out the translations that didn't make sense... like "T-shirt" and "lugs."  Sometimes, if you can guess what a word means, you can put it into an English--> Spanish or Basque translator and get confirmation.  It might not have been given in the original translation because it is a more obscure use of the word.  More fun than a crossword puzzle, that's for sure. =D

Re: Add your chicken words here....

Lugs are ears I think, they are in Yorkshire anyway, to have a haircut is to have "had ones lugs shifted" or their ears moved :funny: That was on of my grandads sayings.  "lug 'oles" is the full name :funny:  Right Lynn?

Google toolbar is pretty good and automatically translates the page you are on,  if you have told it to do them all automatically, it will detect the language and do it.
