Hen infertile?

Has anyone heard or had an infertile hen?
One of our girls is skittish, she gets pick on by the others, gets hauled out of the next box and actually goes in to lay most times when they are given their treats, she wants some peace I believe.  We have never seen the rooster on her but may have missed it also.  Was wondering if she is fertile or stress induced. Or our rooster is picky.
We had collected 5 eggs from her over 7 day period, so she lays well, but none were fertile.  I know people can be, but just didn't hear of it in chickens.

Re: Hen infertile?

Re: Hen infertile?

I would suggest (no science attached, just observations) that she is not infertile so much as her eggs just aren't fertilized for all the reasons you have pointed out. It's surprising she is laying so well given she is not really a happy girl but I also consider, along with the 100 other traits I'm trying to select for and against, how well a bird does socially when selecting. Since they need to successfully live in a flock most of their lives they need to do well in that environment. So maybe it's natural selection giving you a hint if you aren't getting fertile eggs from her.

Raising red cuckoo (marraduna) Euskal Oiloak and self blue (lavender) & black Belgian Bearded d'Uccles.
