Last Sunday hubby was in a very serious accident ...

Its hard to believe its only been a week because it feels a lot longer. Last Saturday we had such a good productive day together, he said " thats the best day I've had in a over a year". That was a wonderful milestone as his previous concussion has been very difficult for both of us to deal with. We decided to play hookey on Sunday and sleep in instead of going to church and then we had planned out a day with Debbie and her hubby. Debbie invited us for a smoked chicken dinner and we were going to play and make cards. Then the boys decided to go for a little quad ride. Well that turned into the beginning of a very rough week. Long story short ... Hubby made a judgement error on a turn and was going to fast and ended up going down a 20ish foot embankment, hit a tree head on, fell off the quad and the quad landed on him. Thank God Debbie's hubby is a large, strong man and could lift the quad off him. Now before you think all the negative thoughts please understand that hubby is a retired cop and Debbie's hubby is a first responder rescuer. They were not doing the crazy quadding you are thinking, he simply was going to fast for an unexpected turn. Lots of mistakes of course and thats why it was an accident. It took 6 rescue vehicles and a chopper to get him out of there and he was then air lifted to Victoria. I get tired just re-thinking all of this! He was in the hospital 5 days and quite miraculously is not dead. They were convinced he had a broken femur and hand but kept scanning and x-raying them and it is 'only' a crush injury. Unfortunately he has black eyes, stitches on his face, a few cuts here and there, extensive bruising all over his body and worst of all a fractured vertebrae in his neck. All in all he is lucky and should make a complete recovery in a few months. He had been wearing a full face helmet and a body armor jacket as well as proper riding boots and I dare say this saved his life and most certainly helped avoid losing his face and another concussion. Not even any broken teeth! I am playing nurse and most of the time I am not too mad at him   x0x  Please pray for a speedy recovery for him and lots of patience for me (its not really my strongest quality)!

Wow. I'm glad it wasn't worse! Bad enough for sure. Thankfully he was wearing the proper gear like you say. Hang in there, my friend. Thinking of you both.

Re: Last Sunday hubby was in a very serious accident ...

Thank you everyone! The kind words of encouragement are welcomed and some days very needed. Hubby has improved in some areas very nicely, stitches in his face are out .. we both laugh that God has a great sense of humor, because the scar is lost in a wrinkle! The black eyes are gone. His jaw swelling is much better and most of the numbness is gone. The massive bruising is gone with only smaller areas left. His neck, leg and shoulder still hurt a lot and probably will for awhile, reminding him just how lucky he really is to be alive. Its been a few weeks of re-evaluating what is important in life and what is not. BTW chickens are still important! I know that my patience is being tested  :wise: I hope I pass.

I was in a very serious accident on the 15th of July.  It seems that a lot of this has been going around recently.  My accident involved my wife hitting a full grown bull moose at 60 MPH.  We were driving through the canyons near Price, Utah.  It was a dark night with no stars, no moon, and the moose was black.  My wife didn't see it until 1/2 second before we hit it.  It did the most damage to the passenger side where I was seated.  I suffered a severe concussion with memory loss for a few hours so I don't remember much of anything until the next morning.  I was lucky in that a bruised and cut up left side of my face was about all that I suffered. I knocked a tooth out, broken my nose in three places but was that was about the worst of it (besides the concussion which limited me from driving a car, riding a bike and many other basic things for the first 10 days, and still it limiting how much I can physically do).

:happycrowd" How scary for both of you. Concussions are a very serious thing. Hubby's first accident that he had was three years ago and only today he FINALLY is off to see the head trauma specialist. It has taken that long to work through the insurance etc and what a time it has been!! Do yourself a favor and read as much as you can about this and have patience. I hope you are both on the mend! :happycrowd"
