Re: EO babies & Others

So glad you got a decent hatch, Flat Rock.  I just heard today that the guy in Quebec that I bought the chickens from has now gotten out of chickens altogether.  Good thing we've got a fresh batch to work with for a while!  Makes me feel good that you've got a few at your home.

Re: EO babies & Others

Thanks everyone!!  Unfortunately they all did not hatch and I had a few quitters, then some non hatchers, 3 fully formed but where positioned with their heads at the small end!!

I am very grateful for the ones that did hatch and will give me some diversity with my EO's and SFH

Re: EO babies & Others

I have some eggs of the same breeding in my incubator.  Due in another week and a half.  Do all of yours have yellow legs, Flat Rock?

Re: EO babies & Others

I am assuming the genetics of yellow legs is simple.  Both parents have yellow legs so I guess that is what I would expect.  (still learning about chicken genetics!)

It is that simple Amblecroft more or less as yellow legs are recessive.

That said I know some of my EOs chicks here have greenish cast to their legs and that trait can hide. I also have some with lighter yellow legs (i think some people call it straw colored) instead of the nice dark bright yellow.

Chances are though if both parents have nice dark yellow legs all the chicks will too.

Re: EO babies & Others

Yes, My first lot had the greenish tint to them but I was hoping with the parents all being really dark yellow that the new chicks would also be the same.  Thanks for the info.

Re: EO babies & Others

Looks like you will have a few roosters to share with others FRF. Pee wee sure is tiny...I have never seen a dwarf EO until this one.

Re: EO babies & Others

That's what I am hoping that maybe a few folks would like a rooster.  Their Mother's were the PQ hens.  Would like to maybe keep one, will just wait until they get a bit older before choosing the "keeper" lol.  Yes not sure what will become of Pee Wee, so small compared to it's hatch mates and looks like a 2 week old chick instead of a 4 week old chick
