Re: This years EO's

Nice Paula!

M&K's pullets have nice color. The one you guys picked out of my "which ones the right color for a marraduna" post as having the best color is also from M&K.

Michelle is sure red (i've always wished i were a red head!). It will be interesting to see what you get if she's mated to a lighter rooster.

And I like Michael too. He does have a lot of black in the hackle so it may be interesting to see if his offspring have it. I used a rooster with a big side sprig for mating this year and although I know I haved created a lot more potential to see side sprigs come up in future years I'm happy i did it, some of my best birds are from him.
I like your little cockerel, I think he has potential too.

They all look good really. Some of your hens/pullets look to have good size and some very nice color as well. Should be interesting to see what you get this coming spring.

Re: This years EO's

Yes Michelle does have a lot of red in her but I had a lot of red ones in with Kazoo and I have gotten a lot of nice coloured cockerels and pullets.  Michael does have a lot of black in his hackles but he is a good size, no white tail feathers, yellow leg/beak and nice gold chest feathers so I think over all other than the sprig he's a keeper.  Still not sure if he is going to be nasty, he is kind of assessing me each time I go in now.  Not sure if it's curiosity or if he's wondering "can I take you" :nervous:

How do you like their names?? =D

Re: This years EO's

As for the names since I have a self blue d'uccle names Paula here i should have seen that one coming a mile away

As for the nastiness...I hope not but some are. His daddy has been pretty good so far although we had a bad couple weeks in the fall.

Re: This years EO's

I just named them for association reasons, I don't leg band or keep records other than in my head

Well I hope he does not get nasty as there is no room for them here.  I do go it the pen with a long stick of wood doweling just in case.

Now the little young dude in the pictures he is as bold as can be so not sure what direction that will go, friendly or nasty???:do?:

Re: This years EO's

Love your flock Paula.  It is nice to see my baby girls growing up.  Elevator and his three ladies gave me plenty of lovely girls but silly me, I kept selling them!  Didn't keep one for myself.  Kept thinking, "But this person is really keen to start with EOs, I can keep the next ones."  :banginghead:

I love the conformation of your flock and I like the variety in shades of the girls. Body shapes are great, heads appear regtangular.  Feather quality is good. Now on the cuteness scale, how can the little red gazing directly up at you be beat?  Or that lovely side shot closeup?

I have kept back 4 or 5 of the best cockerels from Michelle's boys and Elevator sons.  If you want one you can have one for free.  I narrowed them down to these for 1. body type. 2. head shape 3. colour and 4th great combs.  Now I need to share!

All the best,

Kiah and Micah

Re: This years EO's

Thanks Kathy, each year I see improvement from the last.  In the group of 4 pullets I hatched from my flock there is only one smaller girl from the others but her colour is nice and I will breed her with Michael who is a very good size for only 6 months old.

Yes the little red hen she is super sweet, she is always the one that jumps up on the perch to get closer to me

Re: This years EO's

Yes pictures of Michael before he lost all his points on his comb from this past winter.  I will take some pictures of Redbud for you IG.  Now forewarn you Claire's girlies did a bad job of buzzing most of his back feather and his tail.  They are growing back but not as fast I thought they would.  When I first picked him up from Claire he looked like half of a chicken

I will post pictures later today........
