New Chicks

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k515/s_buttivant/003640x480.jpg

5 new EO chicks entered the world this weekend.  The eggs were from my new PQ hens.  I put 11 eggs in the incubator (the very first eggs from two of the hens) and was pleased to get 5 chicks hatch.  They are noisy!

Re: New Chicks

Yes, Maggiesdad, the kids have been walking around with chicks tucked into their t-shirts for a week now.  The chicks love it!

Re: New Chicks

The chicks are 8 weeks old now.  One male and 4 females!  They seem to be a great little bunch.

Re: New Chicks

Yes, Poplar Girl.  I'd like to pair them next time with my old original rooster.  Hopefully everyone will make it through the winter safe and sound and we'll start again in the Spring.

Everybody is moulting now so no eggs from anybody.

Re: New Chicks

I was enjoying my chickens and had my camera in my pocket and took a few pics.  When reviewing the pictures I noticed this picture of the youngsters (on the roost) with their sire on the ground.  For those of you into the genetics of breeding for colour it is interesting that this grown rooster, with quiet a bit of black speckling on his chest did not produce any chicks with black speckling.
