5 day old EO swollen foot

I notice this chick holding up his little foot. It is a little pinker and swollen. I don't think it bumble foot because i don't see a plug on the bottom of his foot.
Any ideas what to do?

Re: 5 day old EO swollen foot

...........Dang you....I think you are just showing off those pretty yellow feet again.  I know what you need to do...get it well then ship it to Oklahoma for observation for about 3 years!!!!!  :funny::funny:   Seriously.....I don't know...maybe some topical antibiotic????  It doesn't look bad from the pic...but it is hard to tell from a pic.......maybe dip it in ACV....I use vinegar for dang near any aliment??????

Re: 5 day old EO swollen foot

Well I think you can see a bit of a plug in the "palm" of it's foot.  The darker area, but hard to see from the picture.  Maybe try soaking it in some Epsom salts and warm water or the ACV like Mike suggested ???

Poor thing it's whole leg is swollen as well. :(

Re: 5 day old EO swollen foot

I checked to make sure it wasn't a plug. it's just dirty. I'll try a soak and see if that helps.

Something looks different where the two outer toes come together - looks really tight there. Scrub it with a soft toothbrush and take another pic a clear as the first one.

Are these chicks running free outside? I would suspect sandbriar or something like that.

Re: 5 day old EO swollen foot

I did a short soak in epsom salts about an hour ago. When i went out to get a better photo it is already looking much better.
I put an arrow near where i thought there might have a little cut or something. And yes, they are free ranging with mom already. not too far from the coop thou.

Hopefully that all it is. Check higher up too. Swelling travels down so it could even be a leg injury. If the swelling is going down though, I wouldn't worry too much. Babies heal pretty quickly.

It does look better!

Mike will be so jealous of your yellow chickkie feet!

That is a very nice picture. Our Electric Co-op has a monthly magazine, and in the mag there is a game of guess the pic called "Whatzit?" If you cropped just the honeycomb part of the center pad, that would make a very interesting picture...

Re: 5 day old EO swollen foot

I used to see photos like that in Omni magazine, but it could have been another mag. It's been a long time.
I'll see how the little guy is doing tomorrow. I sure do love broody hens.

Re: 5 day old EO swollen foot

I was going to suggest the Epson salts as well. That is what I use anytime I get finger owies and it always helps. Beautiful yellow feet! Hmm I have a thing for yellow feet it seems,
