sex link cross?

I have 9 chicks hatched that were hatched out of silver spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben eggs and are obviously sired by big boy my old EO rooster.  They are extremely cute and all have the yellow dot on their head and are blackish chicks.  4 have brown faces and 5 have yellow faces.  Are the brown faced chicks pullets and the yellow faced chicks cockerels?
The chick in the centre is a pure Spitz.

Re: sex link cross?

Gubi, I think you are right. Here is a link to a BYC article that I think explains the gold/silver sex link cross well.

Spitz-Oiloas  at 7 weeks of age.  The bigger one was born greyish yellow with a big white spot on his head.  The smaller one was brown with a tiny black spot on her head

I am guessing on the sex of each, perhaps they are both boys or both girls...

Oh my they are CUTE! I'd say you have a male and a female. And the chick down colors sound right for a male and a female too.

Re: sex link cross?

gotta love the comb on the horned/straight comb cross!  Those Spitz have some very strong genetics.  No matter what you cross them with you can still tell they are 1/2 Spitz.  The spangles on their chests and the nostrils for sure.  I had a EE/Spitz cross pullet 2 years ago that looked just like your pullet. I have never seen the Spitz crossed with a barred bird before though, thanks for posting pics.  Do you need 9 more like them?

Re: sex link cross?

They are adorable!  They are still brown? So sweet.  Does it look like they are going black and white spotted?  I'll fight will photosmucket as I pack and get you photos of Plucky's two spitzoiloas.  They are 10 weeks old.

They will stay brown bot some of them are starting to get black spots on their chests.  I think these girls will look really neat when they are grown up with a spangled chest and barring on their backs.  These guys are opposites of yours.  They are from big boy over Spitz hens so the browns are hens and the silvers are roosters.  Yours were Spitz rooster over Plucky so should be sex able because of the barring gene.  They definitely have the EO curiosity going for them.
