Re: Hello from Virginia!

Well, my hatch went pretty well. Only problem is I hatched Swedish Flower hens in the same hatch and now I'm a little mixed up as to who's who. I did fine initially, but then 5 came out almost simultaneously and that was it. So confused now. I also lost a few dead in shell (both EOs and SFHs) and that only made things more confusing. The rest of the babies are beautiful, though! Just wish I knew how many of what!

Haha! Mike, that's awesome. Well, I did finally get it sorted. And it actually isn't too hard to tell since the Basque babies are bigger - I did have one SFH that was trying to masquerade as an EO, though. ;) I ended up with 5 out of 8 that I set. One was an early death (day 6/7) and two were dead in shell. It's possible they got a little messed up when power went out for a few hours on day 16 and temp dropped, but it also might've just been "one of those things". I also set two Cream Legbar x EO crosses and they are going to be fun to watch grow up. They both popped right on out of their shells like it was nothing!

I'm already impressed with one EO I had to help hatch - I thought for sure he was a goner, but he has rallied and now I can't even pick him out of the group... looking forward to learning more about these sweet birds!

Lookie, Jenn! You'd already welcomed me! :)

I'm going to have to go exploring around here to find the other places to post things, but I figured I'd update to say that I lost one of my Basque babies Friday. :( I suspect it was a blockage, but I am not totally certain. S/he got a very bulgey abdomen and I think s/he was having trouble pooping. I didn't end up figuring out a solution in time. The other 4 babies are doing really well, though! I am already in love!
