Lockdown Today

As of this evening I have locked down 27 eggs in my Hovabator Hatcher that I incubated in my 1202. We have 4 EO's, 8 Barred Rocks, 4 Black Penedesencas, 1 sky blue Easter Egger ( I couldn't resist ) and 10 Buff Orpingtons. Also just last Friday I set a whopping 63 eggs in my 1202 . 30 EO's from FRF and 33 Barred Rocks from my girls! Send me them good hatchin' vibes!

PS I went fishing today again and got snowed out! April 2nd and Mother Nature is still being a pain in my posterior! :cozy:

Re: Lockdown Today

Good hatching vibes sent your way RBF :hatch:

My lockdown is today as well 23 eggs araucana, black mottled and porcelain D'uccles

Wow what a beautiful place to go fishing.  We too have had Mother Nature's tricks here.  Off and on all day getting snow streamers off Lake Huron, one minute a blizzard and the next the sun is shining

Re: Lockdown Today

All the best Riverbend and Flat Rock on a great hatch!!:chickout:  Looking forward to hearing all the results and of course the pictures!!

Riverbend, catch any trout?  We usualy go on the 1st but as you know it as pouring that day here.  Have fished in snow squalls before and caught some very nice trout.  But for us we are and 1.5 hour drive to where we go, so will pick some better days! Got to love spring in Nova Scotia, you never know!!

Re: Lockdown Today

I have about 10 pips this morning. I set them Friday evening 3 weeks ago so they are coming right on time. The Easter Egger pipped first but then took a break, might be he gave up. Have a bunch of barred rocks and at least 1 EO pipping. I'm hearing chirps!

The river in the shots is the West Lahave, which wraps around my farm (thus the name ). Its a 5 minute walk from my door. Last spring we pulled an 11 inch speckled trout out of the river right at he bottom of my hay field. People catch fish right off that little bridge before my house all the time. You can see the bridge in the second shot, as well as a bit of my neighbor's house. This year spring has been late and cold. The trout are not biting, though I did get a nibble that day. He came to the surface, flipped me a fin, stole my bait and took off! Cheeky little bugger...

Re: Lockdown Today

Hatch update: 13 hatched, several more pipping. One (its either an EO or an EE) is deformed and its head is curled under its breast and it cannot pick the head up. I will probably have to cull. Looking like 6 Buff Orpingtons so far, 1 penny, 4 barreds, 3 Eo's and an egger. Still several more pipping and zipping.

By the way FRF, I candled your eggs today and all but 1 are rocking and rolling! There might be a couple of blood rings and I'll know more next week but that means they survived the trip! Well done on the careful packing! All the EO owners around me are wanting roos from this batch for new blood LOL. I may make some money here... :do?:

Yardbirds, my heart still skips a beat when I drive up. Its like I'm dreaming and I have to pinch myself. Today there were robins on the hayfield, the river was rushing over the rocks and the spring songbirds were calling. I was burning the old hay off the field this evening before a gentle rain started to fall. Its just hard to describe how it feels when you know you're finally home

Re: Lockdown Today

I have 8 for 8 turkeys hatched :excited: and the action on EOs and a few Spitz eggs has started.

Seems like many of us decided the weekend after Easter was a good time for chicks.
