Planned Power Outage

:banginghead:

There is a planned 4 hour power outage scheduled for sunday from 6 am till 10 am.  Should I be concerned?

What I planned on doing is putting some ceramic eggs in the empty spots in the incubator turner (genesis 1588 incubator) either scattered amongst or along the perimeter and placing towels hot from the drier over the bator and covering those with a blanket sunday morning after the power goes out.  Is there anything else I should do.  The temps outside will be around the -20C mark?

thank you for any advice....

I plug mine into my car when the power drops out on me.

Re: Planned Power Outage

What day is the hatch on? By day 14 they start making some of their own heat. Sounds like you've got a good plan. If you can keep the incubator temps from dropping below 20C I wouldn't sweat it.

Re: Planned Power Outage

Sunday the 24th.  The incubator is in the warmest room in the house but I have an infrared heater in that room as well.  I guess it will be what it will be, and all I can do is hope.

Re: Planned Power Outage

We had the power go out one year before we had the generator.  So I boiled water on the wood stove and filled the hot water bottle and placed in the incubator.  Then wrapped towels over it but kept an eye on the temp so it didn't get too hot.

Hope all goes well yardbirds!!

And how did you hatch go in that instance.  I did put 7 ceramic eggs in the incubator about an hour ago.

Re: Planned Power Outage

The warm water bags/bottles around the incubator and all that wrapped in a towel makes sense. Maybe warm the room up above normal before the power goes out too.

I hope it doesn't last as long as the estimate yardbirds and that your babies are just fine.

Re: Planned Power Outage

That's awesome Paula...gives me hope.  Power was off for two hours and bator temps dropped to 93.4F and humidity spiked to 71%.  Lets hope I am fortunate enough to have them hatch with no ill effects.  HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY

Re: Planned Power Outage

The internal egg temp wouldn't drop as fast as the bator ambient... that's no different than the hen stepping off the nest for a half hour.  :jumping:
