Re: My flock at 3-1/2 Months

Pic 5 and 8 are the same girl?
She's coming along nicely for 15 wks...

I like roo 3 too, but would wait for final feathers on #4, plus judge hard for type. Who's the biggest, who's dominant, who's most agreeable to humans?

Nice looking flock!

Re: My flock at 3-1/2 Months

Thank you all for your comments :)

Pic 5 & 8 are the same girl, come to think of it. Ive got a couple who are almost identical and it's a real challenge trying to take pics of them and keep em straight.  They move around so fast.

So far, I think roo 3 is the most dominant.  He's already starting to crow, and is the one who seems to take charge in the flock.  He loves to be held, though, and will easily fly up on my shoulder and comfortably enjoy my company.   As far as size, they are similar.    (Actually, the biggest roo in the flock is the grey one)

Re: My flock at 3-1/2 Months

They are lovely. What you have there (in my opinion) is the beginnings of a beautiful Mille fleur type EO flock. Every one of you girls and you potential keeper rooster (photo 3) look to me like they carry the mottling, maybe others will disagree. I can't see your photo 3 rooster's chest but it looks like he has spots of grey in it which to me is one of the traits of mille fleur in the boys. In general the mille fleur types I have are a bit above average in size so I hope yours are nice and big too, they look a good size from the photos. In general I see some beautiful yellow shanks and beaks and some really nice looking birds.

Re: My flock at 3-1/2 Months

Thank you!
That's what I was wondering...the girls all seem to have strong Mille fleur tendencies (from looking at other flocks and comments on the birds)
I will see if I can get a pic of the front of roo #3 and post it.

Beautiful birds!!!  I agree with PG regarding the Mille Fleur colouring all you hens seems to have that colour pattern.  Of all your roosters I would choose photo#3, the rest are too light or too grey, but that is just my opinion.  Like MD said they will change as they get older

Thanks for posting them they are lovely!!

Re: My flock at 3-1/2 Months

I like Roo 7 but only because I love the white ones. I picked my roos out early and found they changed quite a bit as they got older. I had to rethink at 6 months :duh:

I find that too.  In my case I kept finding more faults with them.  I think it is much easier to identify the better pullets earlier on.

nice Millie pullets especially 5 and 8.  I think roo 3 or 4 could work well.

I love their rich yellow legs!  They look a good size for their age!

If the weather holds and stays mild, I can hold off my culling.  Hopefully, it stays mild for a long while yet.

Re: My flock at 3-1/2 Months

 Nice pics and birds.  I personally like roo 4 (unless he is super small), he looks sweet, I like his face/head.  I'd be more inclined to pick a paler roo if he had less black/grey.  #3 is nice too, they both have a nice shape from what I can see.  My Grey/peach ones are always huge and usually have white legs too and :eat: year after year).  You have nice yellow legs.

I like your pullets too. Lots of nice rich gold, they do fade though.  I have definitely been seeing that stronger mottling/barring too this year.  Beautiful!

Re: My flock at 3-1/2 Months

Thank you. :)  He's a bit smaller than roo #3.  I may have to hold on to both 3 and 4 to see how they turn out.  All of them have nice dispositions so far.

Wow, could a Cuckoo project be done with the first roo? So much barring. I love it. =D
