New here from Vancouver Island, BC!

:excited: Hi everyone!

We're really excited to be here.  My husband and I think we found our perfect chicken breed the Euskal Oiloa as we LOVE chickens.  We are not big on the eggs but the chickens... Pets 100%.  We currently have a small flock of 10 mixed (half layers & half bantam) and hope to at least double our family next year.   We have three gentle sons on a large lovely acreage hobby farm on southern Vancouver Island.  The only pet we have is our chickens.  We hope to order two dozen Euskal Oiloa eggs to be hatched at home next season. :cheer:  We have a brilliant deluxe coop with a covered run and supervised free ranging daily.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone,

Angela.

Re: New here from Vancouver Island, BC!

:welcome: Angela, i might be a little bias but I would have to agree with Susan, EOs are a great friendly breed of chicken that lend themselves well to being pets.

Sounds like you have a little piece of paradise all of your own on Vancouver Island!

Re: New here from Vancouver Island, BC!

Oh is THAT the criteria...hmmm...well I have a lot of pets then

If you cook for them are they elevated to family members? :P

And I see you found the first of the TPC (stands for Tiny Purple Chicken) threads. There are actually lavender (self blue), porcelain (as you saw), black, mottled black, and Mille fleur I believe that pictures and stories of have made it onto the forum of. All d'uccles and they make a GREAT pet as well =D

Hope you enjoy the forum and you will love the EO's once you get them.  They along with the TPC make the best chicken pets.

Glad you could join us :happycrowd"

:welcome: Angela!

When all else fails, go spend time with your chickens. :)

Pens are currently filled with Red Cuckoo (Marraduna) and Red Basque (Gorria) breeders, Spitz, and Seramas.

Re: New here from Vancouver Island, BC!

Hi there Angela :welcome:  Sound like you will fit in just fine here! :happycrowd"  There are just a few spoilers of pet chooks here.  EOs, TPCs, Wheaten Ameraucanas and Black Sumatras are my fave pet chooks.  But they are all beautiful anyway (when they are not molting)  I have a black Pendesenca that looks like a black sea urchin right now :funny:!

I think you will love the Eos, but be warned, they love jewelry and painted toenails!

Welcome Angela to the home of EO lovers and owners of TPC because they are the best. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Re: New here from Vancouver Island, BC!

Thanks for the warm welcome.  Sounds like I will need to find some TPC as well.  I love chickens but it is actually my husband who is down in the coop every night tucking them into bed..lol :happycrowd"

Re: New here from Vancouver Island, BC!

Tucking them in is great, they look all so accessible (and easy to count), but my sumatra hates to be taken off the perch, she definitely disapproves.  Your hubby must really like them.  I always rest easier when I know they are all in safely tucked in for the night too.

Re: New here from Vancouver Island, BC!

Thanks Monika I REALLY enjoyed talking with you today. :excited:  I cannot wait to meet you and hopefully be #1on your wait list for 2013. I could even foster your *not sure* chickens for back-up breeding .  I was in 4H as a child and it is so hard picking the "perfect" specimen.  My downfall was choosing more for personality and less for looks...lol  Anyways I am just thrilled to know your here on the island.   :)
