Re: Yay!

Just wanted to share my HUGE egg story.

*** Warning not from an EO. *** :funny:

My Olive Egger just started laying last week and has only produced 3 eggs so far. First was 44 grams (typical for a pullet), second was 49 grams (getting bigger), but her third egg was HUGE. 63 grams!

The EO pullets have been laying for a month and their largest was 52 grams so far.

Re: Yay!

Definately some nice big shinny eggs! I wonder if the 63 g one is a double yolker?

Nice use of metric there too! :Canada: Eggs must be in grams but chickens can be weighed in either lbs or kg and still make sense in my world

Re: Yay!

I'm wondering if it's a double too. It would be the first one any of my girls ever laid.

Re: Yay!

maybe i need a brighter light, but i can't ever see the yolk outline when i candle. i even tried some of the lighter colored eggs and i can't see anything. I did notice that my EO's eggs are more porous looking than my Orpington's. Is that normal for EOs or is it cause they are young?

I'll try to take a photo later.

Re: Yay!

I use a one million candlepower flashlight - looks like a boombox if you remember those...  It lights them up though, the 14 day old embryos will swim to the other side to get away from it!

Re: Yay!

Ok, I broke it open tonight, I just couldn't stand it. It was a double yolker. It was delicious as noodles with veggies and some soy sauce. I have made noodles or dumplings every night for 4 nights in a row. The dogs have enjoyed a raw egg every night as well. 8 out of 9 girls are laying!!!

I'm going to post a request for recipes for dog food with eggs in the recipe section.
