Hello from Central Florida!

I just got turned onto the Euskal Oiloa breed and can't wait to add some to my backyard flock someday!  I'm especially attracted to the "friendly" comments.  I have a mix of Cuckoo Marans, Dominiques, Ameracaunas, Buff Orpingtons, and White Leghorns.  They free-range during the day (well protected by my Australian Shepherd and our turkey).  At night they have a custom built coop to sleep in.  I've also got six baby Marans being well raised by Mama Maran (Marian).  Total number of chickens around 20.

Re: Hello from Central Florida!

Welcome! They had me at "friendly" as well. And the even better news is it's true, I have never seen chickens friendlier...well maybe a tie with my lavender d'uccles but it's a different friendly

Re: Hello from Central Florida!

:welcome: Suze!  I hope you get some Euskal oiloas! When I decided to get them in 2008, there was no info on them except a handful of pics on Feathersite!  I thought they looked pretty and different so thought we'd try them.

We have had other friendly breeds and individuals, but I didn't realize quite how special these were til I shipped eggs to a few adventurous people in 2009 and every one remarked on how friendly they were!  :chook: It wasn't just our handling, they were inherently friendly :cheer:

When all else fails, go spend time with your chickens. :)

Pens are currently filled with Red Cuckoo (Marraduna) and Red Basque (Gorria) breeders, Spitz, and Seramas.

Re: Hello from Central Florida!

Thanks everyone!  I was probably looking through Feathersite.com.  I like to look at the "new" pictures.  Then a google search . . .   And, I found all ya'll.  I can wait, I still have a pretty young flock - with a few retirees.  So, when it's the right time, the right babies will be available!
