4 weeks olds, weights and pics vs chick down

I originally posted some of the chick pictures in the Genetics Study Group as chick down photos but i don't think they are appropriate there. I am actually not certain at this stage that I could tell much of anything based on the chick down. These are all chicks hatched from eggs from Black Horse Ranch, not of my breeding.

First two chicks (pink and green right) are pure BHR. Chick picture vs. 4 weeks olds.

These chicks are BHR most likely crossed with a Sparkle/Sequine rooster from Susan. Chicks were 5 days old in the first picture. 4 weeks old in pictures 2 and 3.

Re: 4 weeks olds, weights and pics vs chick down

They are looking good.  Green BHR is a pullet, at least she would be if she was one of mine.  I went through mine today too and I have lots of pullets, almost twice as many as cockerels.

I agree green looks like a pullet.

My black dot on the head pullet is deer color. Maybe you a an track that?

They look good to me.

Wish we had more pullets here. :US:

Re: 4 weeks olds, weights and pics vs chick down

You guys could be right, I actually did think pullet for green until yesterday but "she" is big and was going nose to nose with another roo for quite some time.

NaturePace I guess I need to wait and see but purple had eyeliner and the most distinct head spot I have ever seen, even lots of grey on the chick down on her back, and she really isn't turning out with that much grey compared to the other pullets although they all seem to have a bit too much grey. To be honest at this point I don't know if the chick fluff is helping predict much of anything.
