Re: Apollo is not well

It may take a few days for the vitamins to work their magic.  I hope he is OK Susan.  :nervous:

I am sorry he is not feeling well.  I hope he gets better soon. I honestly don't know what else I would try.

Re: Apollo is not well

Well, Apollo is bathed ( that was a new experience) he was very good. Luckily it is 23 degrees C here because towelling off a bird is difficult! I basically just kept wrapping him in clean towels to soak it up. While I did, I checked him all over for wounds, and crawlies. Couldn't find anything. There are louse eggs on some of his feather shafts so I will treat him again in a few days as they hatch. I am almost wondering if it is a joint problem, like on heavy breeds that grow too fast. Please keep the thoughts coming. I think he is declining. He fell off a hen today without successfully mating her. I think I will be giving Zeus the top job for awhile. Oh, and just in case, I used some mite drops in his ears as that could lead to balance issues. I javen't ruled out Mareks, but it is a different presentation than any of seen before if it is.

Susan,

Still sending good thoughts and energy to you and Apollo....

When all else fails, go spend time with your chickens. :)

Pens are currently filled with Red Cuckoo (Marraduna) and Red Basque (Gorria) breeders, Spitz, and Seramas.

I certainly wish I knew what is wrong with him! Just can't figure what it could be.

Re: Apollo is not well

Do you think he could have gotten into some bad feed or maybe mushrooms
Just a thought as some of the funguses can be bad

Re: Apollo is not well

That would make sense, but they are in the barn and a confined run while in the breeding pen. The feed is new ( I buy a tonne at at a time and no one else is showing signs. Man I sound argumentative at everyone's comments but I am just writing as I think here. I really do appreciate all the ideas.

Re: Apollo is not well

You don't sound argumentative, just certain of what it isn't.    I sure hope that he is feeling a bit better today and even better tomorrow.  I don't know what is wrong with him but with every suggestion that is made, one other thing is ruled out.   Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way!  ((((((((((BIG HUGS))))))))))

Re: Apollo is not well

Well Apollo just finished mounting and mating a hen. He has kept his behind clean since his bath as well. Still not swaggering though.

Re: Apollo is not well

Well that's great news! A clean bottom and a successful mating! Let's hope he gets his swagger back as well!

Re: Apollo is not well

So as I said earlier, I am thinking of giving Zeus a try in the breeding pen. He has more grey on him, but Apollo's fertility may be lowered by whatever he is dealing with. I think I'll give him the pullers to take care of, and give Zeus the breeders. Poor guy. Still struggling.

Re: Apollo is not well

Oh poor dude.  Maybe it is just this changeable weather stirring something up.

Curly had has a pretty bad limp since last summer, I can't figure it out but his and Blondie's fertility is great.  It helps he only has one hen to chase! :net:

Re: Apollo is not well

How is Apollo doing Susan, is he out of the breeding pen yet? Doing better, worse or the same?
