Re: Soon to be a New EO owner and preserver of the Breed

Hey Joe, Welcome.  :welcome: Great to see you here.  You will enjoy the EOs if you like friendly birds.  I know a number of people who have listened to us in the past when we have raved about the EOs ans they  now know what we were talking about for themselves! :EO:

There is tons of great info here, we tend to get off track so feel free to use the search or ask away.  We have so many pics of EOs on there too.  Enjoy the site.

Hello and :welcome: Once you have some EO's you'll never look back.

Some of us are driven by the need to make animals a part of our lives. We are soothed by their presence, fascinated by their behavior, and amused by their antics.

Hi appway and :welcome:

I grew up not far from you, near the town of Whitewood. I do happen to be headed to see my parents Easter weekend by way of Susan's place in Saskatoon if that helps any with your quest for some EOs :doI?:

Hi Joe!

Welcome to the asylum... err... forum!  :funny:

You will find that there are a lot of very nice and helpful people here!  I've been reading and learning for a few months now... waiting until our weather will let me keep an incubator stable enough for a hatching cycle!  LOL

Glad to have you here!!

Re: Soon to be a New EO owner and preserver of the Breed

:welcome: Hi appway.  I got my first EO's through the ACE egg swap in 2010 were I won the lottery and was paired up with Claire!  The plan was to keep the hens hatched from the swap eggs as layers which happened with the BLRW but I couldn't resist the EO's and I ended up getting more eggs from Claire 3 times last year to get a good breeding group together. And I now have 32 EO's due to hatch this week and another batch of eggs due to hatch Easter from my own flock now.

Re: Soon to be a New EO owner and preserver of the Breed

Oh Joe, great question.  You are on the right track with the D'Uccles.  :funny: I bet more than half of us here have them, I'd guess mostly lavender, then some with Millies two and Poplar Girl has black splits now to improve the vigor.  They have that same friendly spark as the EOs and the people that love the EOs love the D'Uccles too.

I wrote this article about them, they are my favourite banty!

Re: Soon to be a New EO owner and preserver of the Breed

Oh Joe you are lost to the outside world for sure now....d'uccles are amazing. I adore them  You will want some of them too

My dad farms about 6 miles north west of Whitewood. My DH's parents live out by the Fin Colony north east of town. We will be splitting our visiting time between the two farms and Melville where my sister lives. We will arrive Good Friday (evening) so that would be the best time to collect your new chooks  Let me know what you decide.
