Wow you have got some handsome boys.  I love the Millie fleur markings of the hen in the last picture.

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

I know :( but she is very pretty.  The Wheaton colour hen is the more desirable colour, I am not sure why were are getting so many variables with them   Regardless they a great birds and will lay some nice shiny eggs

Yes, to be honest, I love them all. I am trying to pair up for "proper" colours but I can't say I am not enjoying the hodge podge

:goodthread: the pictures are helping me 'see' the different varieties. Is the tight barring on Sparkle desirable? I sure like the look of it.

The tight barring on the younger boys (not Sparkle) is good.

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

Wow the first one he looks like an oil painting of a chicken.   He needs a classic oil painting name.  He actually looks like a Henry, but for Sparkly names.... he's certainly covered in diamonds...and that red is so rich.

Youngest dude's face, head and neck look almost identical to Sunny's (Blondie ad Curly's boy) that really light, closely barred.  Gorgeous.

Sparkle is such a good boy, and handsome too.

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

Both Roos aside from Sparkle are BHR birds right Susan? They are turning out nicely! Both have a place in the breeding pen in my mind. I would match them with the best hens you have, probably with girls from Claire/Sparkle, and I think you might get some nice babies. How is their temperament? Adonis their brother has a serious attitude I find, not mean but cocky!

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

I like zeus. I was thinking van Gogh as well because man does he "go" when Sparkle comes by. Yes PG, the 2 are bHR. I just wonder if I should use Sparkle and my younger boy(Sparkle's son) or if I should use these two this year. Yes they have very nice temperaments. No attitude at all, but that could change if they weren't with Sparkle. And then there is the gorria roo to go with the gorria hen... So many choices, but also the need for so many small pens....

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

Susan I want babies from your youngest BHR roo. Can we call him Apollo?  =D He has some nice traits IMO. Maybe he can come and live at Auntie poplar girl's for a few months if you don't have room to put him in a breeding pen?

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

I am headed through Saskatoon in April (easter). Might need to think on that for a bit if you might be convinced to lend him to me...I really am struck on him  Plus we will want to meet up later in the summer to swap a few birds I'm sure...

Nice looking Flock of Roos
They should do good in your breeding pens this year and you will have a good choice for hens that you keep back next year
Thanks for sharing

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

Thanks appway. I bred some early ones from the mixed group earlier in the year, but now the youngest dude, Apollo is heading a group of 4 of my nicest right now. Sparkle is still heading the other group, but I have 't been collecting as many eggs from that group. I may give Zeus a try later in the year. I also have gorria trio on the go.

Appway. Check out the post, "Romeo, Juliet and???". There are pics of them there. Are you interested in them as well? I could possibly send some eggs or young birds with PG

Re: The Roos in my Breeding Pen Right Now

Questions I can handle! No problem, as to first born, I have my own and he keeps me hopping! Then I have my second and she is just as much, but they are amazing children. Just promise me you will take good care of them and make the most of our collective knowledge and I will. E happy :)
