Weights of Round One Chicks @ 7 wks

Red Roo           -  2lbs 2oz

Black Roo         -  2 lbs

Blue Roo          -  1lb 15 oz

Purple Roo       -  1lb 12 oz (used to be pink, but he asked for a different band color  )

Brown pullet    - 1lb 11oz

Yellow pullet    - 1lb 9oz

Orange pullet  -  1lb 9oz (used to be blue 1)

Blue 2 pullet    -  1lb 8oz

Green pullet    -  1lb 7oz  (used to be blue 5)

Blue 3 pullet    -  1lb 6oz

Blue 4 pullet    -  1lb 4oz

Weighed on an old Hobart grocer's scale that I believe reads a little light ( 5lb sacks of sugar and flour don't weight 5 lbs on these scales  ) But at least it gives me a conservative estimate. Anyway, 18.5 lbs of chicken @ 7 weeks and one 50lb sack of chick crumbles.

That is great!  It will be great record keeping like that that will get this breed taken seriously. :snowman:  You know, now I think of it, often the roos are looking while the girls are eating here in pics (unless the girls think I have food!).  They are handsome birds you have there!  That is a lovely picture, great idea for  a screensaver!

It's great to have concrete numbers.  The little boogers are still growing.  Looks like your biggest pullet and smallest roo are very close in size.

Re: Weights of Round One Chicks @ 7 wks

The big pullet was super friendly from day one. The one with cinnamon colored down.  She would run across the brooder and hop on our hands. She is still dominant, (of the pullets) and when the boys run up to each other,  fluff their hackles and do their little dance, she runs up and jumps right in the middle of it.

They look at her and peck her on the back of the head, and she walks away as if to say "Whatever!"

They are little characters aren't they?  She sounds like she'll be top girl anyway, you watch. Blondie is our top girl even when in with all the breeds, the Sumatras are next.  The EOs are confident but like it is owed them, and a done deal, they don't seem have to take it from another.  It's neat to see. :EO:

Interesting.  I always find stats and comparisons interesting.  The Wellies do seem too shoot up fast.  Looks like you are relatively close in wieghts though, same parents on the chicks I guess too.

Re: Weights of Round One Chicks @ 7 wks

:eat: I had one recipe book out and the recipe called for two "Spring Chickens" a pound and a half each.

A few years back when I was in France we were staying at a farm B&B and one morning I was outside talking to the owner and he was in his hand was a half plucked little chicken.  Maybe it was a Spring Chicken?  I wasn't staying for dinner so I didn't ask what was on the menu :-)

Re: Weights of Round One Chicks @ 7 wks

This is intertesting and where the phrase comes no doubt.  :eat:  I think the Black Penedesenca Spring chickens would be the biggest ones here
