Well it has started.....

After much resistance to fire up the incubator I finally caved :chairhide:

I want to do a bit of a fertility check so I have filled the incubator with:
8 - Cream Brabanter
6 - Swedish Flower Hen
5 - Euskal Oiloas
4 - Araucana
and just to fill up the incubator.....
2 - Silkies

Fingers crossed for good fertility :please:  Will update in a week..........:nervous:

Re: Well it has started.....

Thanks Glen!!!.  I am hoping I get something to hatch from these eggs.  They were collected last week when it was so cold, I worked 4 morning shifts until 2:00 so by the time I got home some of them were pretty cold.  I had asked hubby to collect but he was out plowing snow quite a bit   It has turned milder now and will be for the whole week so I am going to collect some more and when I candle if there are any duds I will have some to fill it again. =D

:jumping:  Happy chick hatching!  I will be attempting to collect and hatch some of my own eggs for the first time when it is a lot warmer.

Fingers crossed FRF! My first EOs hatched today, lots of infertile eggs so a very small hatch but two cute little fuzzy butts so far!

That must mean that spring is on it's way.  Hard to tell from looking out the window.

Re: Well it has started.....

good for you.  It is going to warm up this week!  Hopefully I can separate my breeds soon so I can start hatching sometimes this year too!  How are your Brabanters looking this year?  Do you have any closeups of their crests and combs?

Re: Well it has started.....

I lost one young pullet this winter.  It was while I was laid up after my knee surgery.  By the time DH mentioned that one didn't look good it was too late!!

I don't have any recent pictures but I will take some, my young cockerel from last year is quite the looker!!

I know you want some eggs

Re: Well it has started.....

:jumping:  second incubator?  I thought you had a big brinsea?  I got my breeds separated this week and will start collecting Monday.  So far egg production is starting to increase except for the silkies.  I hope for a few hatchable eggs from the old girls.

Re: Well it has started.....

Yes I will but you are usually heading home before we get there.  What would you like in return for them?  I should have EO's, Spitzhauben, EE's (Splash Wheaten Am roosters over my beared blue/green laying hens) if you are interested in hatching eggs.

Re: Well it has started.....

Absolutely nothing gubi, you gave me all those eggs last year when I picked eggs up from you for Monika.

I know you get there later after your done chores but maybe Kathy would be kind enough for me to leave them with her and you can pick them up from her??

Or I may see you sooner depending when and if PG wants some eggs sent ;)

Re: Well it has started.....

 Thank You!  But you are more then welcome to some eggs in return.  PG might have to wait a bit I want to hatch as many as possible first here and I just separated them this week.  We will see how the hatching goes first
