Anyone else have a rooster do this?

Hi all,  While collecting our eggs for hatching we spent lots of time in the coop and wanted to show you what we found that this breed of rooster does.

You have to pay attention also to the noise in the coop.  It is loud at first, then the girls all calm down and one as you see also starts to go to sleep.  "Rico" does this when ever he has a girl pacing back and forth wanting to lay.  You will hear his "purring".  Not sure what else to call it.

When ever we clean up the nest boxes he is the first one in, and makes the nest for the girls to lay.  Big task as we have 10 boxes for them. =D

Does anyone else have a roo that does this.  He also will stand guard so the other hens don't disturb the one laying.  We really love this rooster.

Can't see your picture or video HR??

I have had roosters get into the nest box and make clucking noises like when they have treats for the girls.

Sorry HR, I tried to figure out how to fix your code but I couldnt help!

I know the sound you mean and I think the behaviour, most of my basque roosters do it to! My boys are very happy and vocal right now as I just put a girlfriend in with each of them.

Oh listen to him, what a good boy to help pick the nest box for the girls to lay in

I have never had any of my EO rooster do it but have had a Swedish Flower Hen and a silkie rooster do it.

:jumping:
Glad it worked.  He amazed us.  We had an australorp roo that used to go to a corner and rub his head back and forth and cluck.
But it always takes me off guard when you go checking box to box for eggs and you look in and there is a "Rico".  First going off we laughed and said silly boy you don't lay eggs. :duh:

He is quite dedicated to his cause! And the noise he makes is a bit different than my boys. Seems you have found a keeper in Rico
