My last hatch for the season

I was fortunate enough to receive EO eggs from Paula before I left for a trip to Saskatchewan. We timed this so that I could put them into lockdown upon my return. They went into lockdown yesterday (a day late, oops  ...  hope that doesn't mess the hatch Up)  and I candled them as well. Can you believe that 100% of Paula's (Redbud's) eggs are fertile and growing. These are eggs shipped across Canada  ...  I hope the hatch rate is impressive too. I also recieved eggs from a different Paula roo who's eggs were not quite as fertile at 50%  but it will be such a good test for us all to see what the hatch results are :) Its good to be home and I will be back  tomorrow for the hopeful beginning of a new hatch.  :happycrowd"

Re: My last hatch for the season

Thanks pg and FRF, so far I have 19 new babies  and one more in the bator that I did help out a bit as it was dried to the shell. I am hoping she will be in good shape by morning. I still see some pipped eggs and can hear some peeping so I believe morning will bring even more balls of fluff. I am very excited about having some EOs that are a little further away in the gene pool,  these chicks are huge and fluffy  =D  Pictures soon.

Re: My last hatch for the season

Final count is 25 wonderful new EO babies! How weird is it that I am happy it is the last hatch for this season and yet sad that it is the last hatch for the season     I have a ton of cockerels for the freezer and a handful of my own new pullets and now of course 25 potential hens, yes I am thinking positively, lol. I was able to share EO  pullets with Debbie and a neighbor who started her very first flock of chickens this year.I thought she may as well start out with the perfect breed  :P I am looking forward to some poultry shows now and to hearing how everyone else's EOs are doing.

Re: My last hatch for the season

I did pg the ones with the dot are from FRFs Michael and the others are from her roo Redbud.  I am hoping to use some for breeding next year and would like to keep track of them. I hatched them in different incubators and marked them immediately before putting them into the brooder room. I think I will band and toe punch them to insure that I don't mix them up. I really have to check and see if there are pictures here of their papas =D

Re: My last hatch for the season

Monika here are some pictures of Redbud and his girls.  The girls with him are my older girls but they are still laying machines and last year I hatched quite a few lovely chicks from them and Kazoo.  Please excuse his lack of feathers , Claire's girlies over winter stripped his back and tail.  The feathers are starting to come back but very slowly.  He is a nice broad fellow with really thick legs.  My chicks from him are huge.
