Announcing the North American Basque Hen Association

I am excited to be able to announce the formation of a North American Basque Hen Association (NABHA). Over the past few months a group of EO enthusiasts have formed NABHA, a not-for-profit incorporated society, to assist in the further establishment of Euskal oiloa in :Canada: and the :US: because :EO: and we want to make sure that they have a long and positive future in North America.

NABHA Mission statement:

The purpose of the North American Basque Hen Association is to unite the efforts of Basque Hen (Euskal Oiloa) enthusiasts across North America in the enjoyment, promotion, and improvement of this breed. The Basque Hen is characterized by its friendly personality making the breed uniquely adapted to urban settings and ideal for production of eggs and meat under farm conditions.

To achieve this goal the North American Basque Hen Association is committed to:
· Creating a cooperative environment among breeders and owners of Basque Hens across Canada and the United States.
· Encouraging unity, integrity, and goodwill within the greater Euskal Oiloa community.
· Focusing and organizing the efforts of breeders in North America to a Standard of Perfection for the Basque Hen in the style and format recognized by the American Poultry Association.
· Promoting the breeding, exhibition, and distribution of high quality purebred North American Basque Hens that adhere to the Standard of Perfection set forth.
· Sharing of information on breeding, husbandry and the economic value of Basque Hens.

There are still a lot of details to work out and things to set up but we are just too excited about NABHA not to let the folks on the EOCF in on our exciting news at this point. We hope to have things set up so that NABHA will be open for membership soon so stay tuned for more information!

La chicken that's a whole lot of wine, hopefully we have enough people interested in joining NABHA that we need that many glasses and more to go 'round :wine:

Re: Announcing the North American Basque Hen Association

Can I put this information on my Facebook Page?  I've got some people that have bought eggs and chicks and are very keen on preserving the breed.
I'm sure they would be interested.

Re: Announcing the North American Basque Hen Association

We wanted to share with the folks on the EO forum first, even while in the "getting our ducks in a row" stage :happycrowd" At this point we haven't posted on other forums or generally advertised NABHA but we do want other EO lovers to hear the good news and to join as members once we get that all figured out. So I would say go ahead and post on your Facebook page Amblecroft. Just make sure to be clear that there is still some behind the scenes organization and preparation going on so to please have patience, more news to come!

Re: Announcing the North American Basque Hen Association

Thanks.  It will be nice to at least collect names and places where the birds are being raised and appreciated.

Re: Announcing the North American Basque Hen Association

That's a good point Amblecroft, we hope lots of people with EOs will be willing to join as it will be one way we can try to keep track of where and how many EOs are out there!
