Caught in our live trap *graphic*

Yesterday one of German Shorthair Pointers was making a fuss over at the live trap (man made-welded-and huge) I saw that the trap door was down and thought oh not another raccoon! Well with all the rain and the dark skies it was really hard to see into the trap even though it was still mid afternoon. Then I noticed that in fact a mink had its head caught guillotine style in the door on its way out of the trap. Unfortunately it was still alive and had to put down. I can not even begin to imagine the speed that it must have moved at to set the hairpin trigger that the bate (egg & wet catfood) was on, then turn around and almost get out of the door, the trap lever for the bate and the door are at least 2 feet apart and the door only takes a second to close. One less chicken stealer in my yard ...

Yikes!!!  Good thing you caught it.  It always amazes me that such a small critter can do so much damage, they are vicious little things. :nervous:

Glad you caught it. Can you take pictures of the trap and describe it? I'd like to learn how to build traps in order to:congrats: to protect my flock in the future.

My lil' chikkin buddy  -  NOT!

...don't click if dead critters disturb you.

That little hussy really set my winter egg production back - took 5 of my best EO cross pullets in less than a week. Which puts my feed bill in the red for about six weeks...  Oh well, I'm not in this for the money. But it does help when the girls can pull their own weight.

Sorry about your EO girls MD, curious what kind of a fox that was. Incredible coat on it. The mink has already been taken by a fellow that ties flies. Guess the hairs are great for that.
