Please Weigh in on Rooster Size

Hey everyone, I wanted to start this thread to discuss a problem I have. My only remaining SLF cockerel (Jack) is really somewhat small. I noticed when I got that group of chicks that their sire was beautiful in color, but he was a little guy. I am now having that problem with the one cockerel I kept back from that group. I have 2 very nice prospects from FRF that are HUGE in comparison and are younger than Jack. I will get good pictures tomorrow to post here to continue the discussion. I might try to weigh them and I'll also track their ages as roughly as I can. I am considering not mating the small boy, even tho he is my only remaining roo from SLF lines. I have the other two from FRF, but I am leery to cross them to their hatch mates. Should I cross small Jack to the best FRF pullets, or will he just continue to throw smaller birds? I really want BIGGER birds, as when dressed out these guys are downright PUNY...look like skinned crows. My other option could be to cross the bigger roosters, and bring in yet more hatching eggs next spring. I am a bit worried as Jack hasn't proven to grow out how I had hoped he would, and I was planning on basing my first "family" off his line. Please weigh in with your opinions and what you have found over the seasons of breeding. I really could use the help. Remember, pics coming tomorrow.

OK I have some pics now. First shot is FRF#1 "Notorious B.I.G." my hands down fave for type, colour, and personality.

Here he is next to SLF#1 "Jack". Jack is on the left in both shots:

This is FRF#2. He's my Ace in the hole  Sorry its blurry he's a bit skittish so I had to catch him on the run.

Re: Please Weigh in on Rooster Size

Wow they are big compared to Jack.  I have had that with this years breeding pens, the cockerels have been huge!!  I feel your dilemma with knowing who to breed who to.  I would breed your best birds even if they are siblings, I had to do this originally as what I hatched in my first year with EO's is what I had to work with for breeding my second year.  If you are not wanting to breed hatch mates yes you could pair Jack with some of the large pullets hatched from me and hope for large offspring

Not sure if this helps, maybe someone else can offer more knowledge than me
