Re: New blood!!

Great photos Megan!!

Your not a horrible picture taker, it's those darn EO's they don't stop moving around and I have so many that are up close and personal because they want to see what I have in my hand.

Re: New blood!!

We do plan on sharing the hatching eggs! We plan on starting to ship them in the next month or so. We have a list going. We are limiting it to a dozen per person until we get to the bottom of the list and then we can send more to those who want them (to make sure it's fair for everyone!) One of my girls has decided to start eating the eggs so we need to separate her (or we won't have any eggs to sell!)

Oh no not an egg eater!!!  :nervous:  Nasty habit to break, I would separate her for sure

Well whenever you can send them north of the border mark me down for a dozen :please: :please:

Re: New blood!!

Great to see the new picture(s) and the similarities even across the pond.  I love the fawn colour (I call it fawn because my Pyrenees/basque dogs are the same colour which is called fawn).  A couple of days ago I just separated my fawns & best rooster from the spotted Mille Fleurs.  As a dog breeder I naturally find it  satisfying to see uniformity in a group of animals.

I am curious Meg 2000000, have you been getting what is being called Mille Fleur colour?

Re: New blood!!

Amblecroft - I believe I know which pattern you're talking about. I haven't had any of those come up. I have one girl originally from Skyline who has that type of pattern. My whole flock just came straight out of the eggs.. No culling for colors or standards yet.

Re: New blood!!

Wow I covet that rooster. 7 pointer! He's beautiful and those hens look just spiffy!

WOW....just...wow. To get that type of uniformity in one hatch is frankly unheard of in our lines.

Dahliagram - I have you down. You're not too late! We won't start shipping out eggs to the top of the list for at least another month.

The black and white chicks are called Pita Pintas. I have a picture on the first page of this thread of their parents!

Well, that is great to know Meg200000!  I think I'll just cull my' mille fleurs' speckled hens out of the hatches and concentrate on the solid fawn/blonde.  I have half a dozen nice solid coloured ones so I hope the rooster is a good influence!!  Thanks for the info.

I'm getting some new ones and they are all the fawns/blondes like in the picture below.  In dogs I'd say they have "good pigment".  don't know the chicken term (hee!hee).  New chickens are just as exciting as puppies!!

Re: New blood!!

It is my favorite colour as well.  :EO:

I also see, Meg 200000, that you have a little black specking around some of the necks.  I've had that as well.  It is very helpful to see your birds as a basis for comparison with what characteristics have been coming through.

Love your chick pics too.  Do you get the chicks with the little white dot on the top of their heads?
I can't wait to get my incubator going.  Just have to find 3 weeks where I'll be home to turn the eggs :-):layer:

Re: New blood!!

Just make sure to watch for all characteristics when culling- shank and beak colour, body size and proportion, temperament, egg laying ability, fertility  etc.  doesn't hurt to keep as many as you can even if you don't think you will need them :)

Re: New blood!!

I keep as many as I can, for sure.  I didn't have intentions of killing them just separating the egg layers so that I only collect the eggs from the clear fawns.  I love my girls (only just tolerate my boys! ):happycrowd"

Re: New blood!!

A warm welcome to a fellow west coaster from wet and rainy WA state!!!!  :welcome:  :hi:

I'm so excited for you and for the prospect of increasing the EO's genetic diversity in North America!  :jumping:

Would you mind putting me on your list for a doz when possible?  I'm sure the Araucana eggs won't mind moving over to make room!  ;)
Actually, the recent Araucana roo has been "shooting blanks" so to speak!.... So, NO MORE naming roos after drag queens!! (But those cute feathered earrings....)

I'm ashamed to say that I'm not on here nearly often enough, so I will PM you my contact info, so that I don't miss you!
I currently have a pair of recessive whites, one "classic colored" Marraduna roo, a "blondie Marraduna hen" and a ruddy red Mille hen.  I will be happy to get closer to Spanish SOP.... although I adore all my EOs' personalities!  My 1st batch of chicks from this flock does look much more like the classic Marraduna!  (Plus the EO/Buff-Orp cross chicks are HUGE, meaty, and grow like CRAZY!.... same age and nearly twice the size as the other 1-month-olds!)

Again, WELCOME!!
