Re: So I haven't been around a bunch...

So... a couple of months go by, and - bam! - :excited:

Those eggs Scott brought turned into some of these -

And one of those started cackling and dropped this...

and I said, 'Girl, you can do better than that', and today she left me this!

...which makes the basket look kinda like this:

Re: So I haven't been around a bunch...

There's eight more girls too come on line... I need to mark this girl if her color stays good, because I wasn't expecting eggs from them for another 3-4 wks.

Should have some pretty awesome table eggs this winter, what with the EE girls, and my Basque pullets.  Need all the help I can get wintering over this many birds...

Phrases now common to my after chickens existence:
"Let me know what you're after and I'll hook you up"
"Can we meet in the parking lot at 8pm? I drive a red F150. Bring cash."

For bio security we like to meet chick buyers at a Timmies.

Love the BCM pullet photo.  We have started playing with some Marans this year from lines across :Canada: and it has been fun!  Think we've narrowed the potential breeding cockeral down to 2 for the BCMs and two for the Blue Coppers but we can't decide on which of our 4 top FWMs boys to keep so we'll take them to the provincials for judging and get some feedback.  It seems crazy to keep three colours of them but the eggs are three shades of chocolate, just like the three colours of EOs we keep lay three shades of brown.

We are finding both the males and females almost as friendly as our EOs!  Very gentle big birds.  The first BCM pullets are so dark but tiny still!

All the best,

Kiah and Micah
