But I was talkin' chooks with me bro (MD) this evening, and realized I missed y'all...so here I is! :excited: Hope all are doing well and ready for spring thaw and all that brings. See ya soon - I hope! :hi:

Re: So I haven't been around a bunch...

Alas, the only incubating I have going on is vicariously through MD. However, I just paid our deposit/earnest money which gets us our site/engineering survey from our builder. Next will be - *shudder* - their "all inclusive" quote...baby steps, but moving forward.

Ohhh MD are you going to have a new neighbor???? :nervous:

Scott that's a big job building your own home, lets hope the whole process goes well for you   If we can do a meet up again this year it would be nice to meet you "in person".  Am thinking about doing a :roadtrip: for the Gilmanor sale/swap but not sure if that is going to work out for anyone else.

Famous last words, "just looking around"  You might end up calling your mom and telling your you got her a gift of poultry!   :funny:

We can't go but I will live vicarioulsy through your adventures.

Re: So I haven't been around a bunch...

My Mum would not touch a chicken for nothing, unless it's a chick.  She thinks I have rocks in my head for keeping chickens, her words were "I don't know where you get it from"  :duh:

Sorry Scott we hijacked your post

Re: So I haven't been around a bunch...

No worries on the hijack, FRF! =D
M&K - yep I have a chunk of property just a bit away from him. Mom has property between us, so just like when we were kids she has to keep us separated! That's prolly a good thing, cuz we can get into quite a bit of trouble hanging out together!

To further hijack - I'm working on bringing up some eggs from these lovelies.

I'll have my R&D department (MD ) do some incubating and establish some stock...he seems amenable to the idea!

ETA: I hope I can make the meet this time - maybe by putting it out there I'll make it so...

Ooo nice chicken's Scott.  Black Copper Maran??

I am sure MD will be more than happy to hatch the babes for you with that Sportsman

Well was thinking of coming the weekend of the Gilmanor BST but it is my DH's B-Day on the 5th, so will have to see if he is cool with that.  Would like to make a four day weekend, one full day each way for :roadtrip: plus maybe a part day to shop in Richmond

Re: So I haven't been around a bunch...

Well I know he would love to come along but he is a self employed landscaper and that is getting right into the busy time for him.  Plus I need someone around to take care of the critters, my Aunt (my Mum's sister) has stayed at the house before and she is fine taking care of the dogs and cats but she is like my Mum.....chickens....ewwwww.

Yes the BCM are lovely birds.  I have 1 Blue Copper, 1 Cuckoo and 4 Wheaten maran hens, love the dark eggs.

Hi Scott. Glad you are back.
We are meeting with an architect this Friday to get the ball rolling on our house. Fingers crossed we can get what we want with our budget.

Re: So I haven't been around a bunch...

That's great news - I hope y'all can make all the numbers work out.
That's the same thing we are facing - like Dad used to say "Sometimes our 'can-do' doesn't match up with our 'want-to'..."...
Regardless of adjustments, I'm ready to get moving, too.

Yep...That BCM cockerel looks like a REAL Marans.  Way nicer that what I see all over the classifieds in my area.

I'm really looking forward to enjoying that Virginia hospitality again. And of course spending time with my girls :group talking:
