Re: HATCH DAY (Updated Pictures)

Is it possible one of the pops could be a frizzle....like the yellow headed one with the "furry" feet?  That would be very cool....

Re: HATCH DAY (Updated Pictures)

:EO:  and because they are..... :chairhide: ...I HAD to help that last pipped EO hatch.  I felt it my responsibility..... as a broody hen would not have incubated her eggs at a lower than optimum temperature.....therefore.... :welcome: 2nd EO :applause:

:nervous:   Now I know I am not out of the woods yet, but although it had a distended (sp?) navel with a little blood...overnight in my spare clean still air hovabator this little wonder absorbed it, the piece of shell is off, it has fluffed out and although a little wobbly....has joined its hatchmates in the brooder.  Am hoping for the best, and although there is a probability that this little one could be plagued with health issues later on.... as harsh as it sounds....I could always :eat: it if the prognosis is not good.

Final Tally:  9 / 10 eggs hatched.

I'll get you some more eggs yardbirds when I have the HYs separated. Still neat to see the little crosses. Sometimes they end up as my favourites :)

Re: HATCH DAY (Updated Pictures)

great hatch despite of everything. I would be willing to bet that that little yellow headed chick is a silkie cross.  It's head looks just like a silkie with the dark beak and it looks like it has a little crest already too.

Re: HATCH DAY (Updated Pictures)

Glad you got the second EO out :jumping:  I have helped them out from time to time, I just can't let a chick die if they need a little extra help.  The ones I have helped usually grow up fine with no health issues.

Re: HATCH DAY (Updated Pictures)

Dennis always helps them out if they are in trouble.  Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes you end up with odd ones like No Butt.

Congrats on the hatch.  You did great and the babies are awesome!

So...who is next?  Whose hatch is next closest?:happycrowd"

My Silkie mama is sitting on 4 eggs due to hatch tonite, I did check them and there was no pips so I will leave her alone until tomorrow. Its not as nerve wracking as an incubator because she has hatched chicks before and is an awesome mom.

Re: HATCH DAY (Updated Pictures)

Little beauties.  You just want to cuddle them.
We have 10 eggs in our home made incubator, 18 days in and the EO eggs have just got holes appearing, no sign of movement from the Cochins or the Lohmanns.  DH is like an expectant father, it is comical to watch.

Re: HATCH DAY (Updated Pictures)

Well, I just rebuilt my Marsh RollX that I have used since the early 70's.  I changed to a electronic thermostat and the temp is varying from 99.3 to 99.7........So I just killed another excuse.  Maybe someday I will get rid of enough of them to get a good hatch  :chickout:........I've done this forever and still don't understand how people say they get 95-98% hatch in an incubator....maybe a good momma hen, but they are a little smarter than we are abut that hatchin babies stuff!.............Speaking of.......does anybody....or everybody Fumigate their hatching eggs for the incubators?????

I have to keep reminding myself... "It is The Standard of Perfection...NOT the Standard of Quantity that we are striving for..."
