Couldn't Wait........

I couldn't wait to try out the new incubator

So here is first peep I mean peak at what's hatching.  So far 2 EO's out, 2 more pipped and a BM D'uccle and a Araucana is pipped.  The one poor chick I think I blinded it with the flash :pics:

Re: Couldn't Wait........

Congratulations Paula. How many did you put in? What is your hatch rate so far?

Some of us are driven by the need to make animals a part of our lives. We are soothed by their presence, fascinated by their behavior, and amused by their antics.

:jumping: oh oh, lots of pictures please :excited:

MD EvERYONE needs a few d'uccles

I think March and April will be my hatching months this year. That means pairing up the right chooks needs to happen by January so we need to get accommodations finished.

Re: Couldn't Wait........

Oh no!!! I need more :pics:
I would like to see a good photo of the rumpless. Can you tell on a day old? They have the death gene, if I'm not mistaken?? Do you find their eggs are brighter blue than EE or Amerecaunas?

Re: Couldn't Wait........

NP I will take some picture later today.  Yes you can tell by day old if they have tufts and this little one has them but only on one side, it's so cute.  I know you can feel the tail stub if they have one as well I haven't checked that yet.  I have two tailed hens, my one and only hen with tufts has a tail but they all carry the tufted gene so it will pop up or not.  Yes there is also the lethal gene in there, ideally you should breed a clean faced to a tufted, if you breed two tufted that's were the double lethal gene comes in.....from what I understand.

M&K it's a Brinsea top hatch with automatic humidity pump.  I think the most accurate incubator I have had so far for temp and humidity control.

Re: Couldn't Wait........

Ok so 10 out of 14, so I'd say that is 80%.  The four that did not hatch where iffy at day 18 but left them in just in case.

So here is the one tufted rumpless araucana, can see the one ear tuft,                                      One Black Mottled D'uccle:

One Bantam Silver Laced Cochin:                                                                                                Total of 7 EO's

Re: Couldn't Wait........

Claire I must admit I am very partial to the BM D'uccle chicks they look like baby penguins with fuzzy feet   I love the bantam chicks, they are just so cute and tiny =D

I  have another batch of just BM D'uccle and Araucana set to go again, unfortunately the self-blue and porcelain are not laying or I would add some of them in as well.  Got Araucana eggs shipped from the states yesterday but took 13 days to get here so I am not sure what kind of hatch rate I will have with those :nervous:
