New chicks... to the world!!!

:excited:

I'm so excited. Annie hatch 2 Marraduna EOs... so far. 2 more EOs, 2 welsumers and an Orpington mix are pipped. I thought she should hatch them on 25th, but counting days has never been my strong suit. She started sitting on Sept 3rd.

Re: New chicks... to the world!!!

She and the babies are BEAUTIFUL!  Love that September lighting!   Congratulations all around! :congrats:

Lots of folk's EOs come on day 19 and 20. (a good indicator that we might be running our bators a tad cold if it goes to day 21 and 22)

Re: New chicks... to the world!!!

all 7 eggs hatched! Mother and babies are doing fine. We moved them to a lower nesting box with some chick starter and water. Hope everyone doesn't bug her.
Looks like:
2 EO/EO
2 EO/Welsummer
2 Welsummer/EO
1 Black Orpington/EO with a white dot of his head

So the black guy with the dot is sex linked? I thought you had to have a barred hen with a solid cock to get the sex linking? Mother was a Blue Orpington and father is EO cockerel.

I'll try to get some more photos later today.

Re: New chicks... to the world!!!

Some photos of the babies.

Pure EO:

Maybe pure Welsummer:

Orpington/EO Being the mother was Blue Orpington and father was EO, I'm not sure, but I think the white dot could still be a girl in this case. (not sex linked)

Congratulations!!! :jumping:

They are gorgeous!  Yeah, the dot just means it carries the barring gene.  If mom was barred and dad was solid, then it would be a definite male - sex-linked.

Beautiful!  What a fun time of the year to have chicks.  You take fantastic pictures!

Re: New chicks... to the world!!!

Thanks CR. I hope, I hope it's a girl this time. If it's not I guess a meat boy wouldn't be bad. Those Orpingtons carry some meat around.

The broody SA decided not to be broody longer than one night here, so no chicks for her. She is still making a pissed off sound, but not trying to sit on a nest.

Re: New chicks... to the world!!!

Here are some updated photos of the EO chicks. I'm once again going to say the dark wing is a female and the light wing is a male.
