Our First Attempt at Hatching EOs

We have collected 10 EO eggs from our ladies (supplied by Pops Coops but manufactured by Susan) and last night we put them under our very broody hen (whose breed is still to be determined)  She has not moved off them so looks like she will be a good foster mom.  Two of her last batch of chicks still climb into the nesting box with her of an evening for a cuddle, it is so sweet.  We hope there won't be any jealousy if/when our EO chicks hatch.  Would you guys recommend moving the older chicks out of the coop before the hatching begins?  When they hatched we left them in the coop with all the older hens and mommy hen made sure they were safe and well looked after.  Woe betide any other hen/roo who got too close to her babies.

Re: Our First Attempt at Hatching EOs

Oh well, lesson learned.  Do not put 10 eo eggs under your broody hen and go off on vacation leaving your neighbour (who has kept chickens for many years) to keep an eye on them.  We came back to find she had thrown the eggs out, even though I had told her about them and I had written the details on the egg.  DH was very annoyed.  Broody hen had gotten off for a few minutes to get some food/water and she thought they had been abandoned!  I feel a new incubator purchase coming on.

I was being polite about the "annoyed" part, don't know if he will ever entrust his ladies to anyone ever again.
