Chicks safe in the tractor!

Two chantecler broodies are taking care of these 7 babies.   2 Euskal Oiloa, 3 Lavender Orpingtons and 2 Lavender Ameraucanas.

I just out them out on grass last week at 2 weeks old. They are noisy bouncy little creatures, we've never raised so many chicks with broodies before, it's neat to see the different behaviour.

Thanks Susan!   The chanties make good Moms!  I'll start a new thread with Barney's 2 Euskal Broodies in Manitoba.

Claire I think you are right, those two look more like wheaten americauna than marraduna EOs. They sure are cute though!

Re: Chicks safe in the tractor!

You should see then now one of them is make for sure.  Last weekend I had  a look at them and was thinking that's a lot of black, maybe they'd be heavily white and black mottled like Susans.  When I got home Thursday, I realised there was no white coming in under, it was ll black!!

When they hatched I though their cheeks are full, but they weren't so full it was unmistakeable, but I was so certain the egg shells were right

Re: Chicks safe in the tractor!

Nothing wrong with a couple cute little americaunas!

I should post pics of my most non EO looking EOs...some are really far from what they should be so it's not so easy to tell!

Re: Chicks safe in the tractor!

Yes, it would be good to see those pics too!  It will helps us see what else is in the genes as the recessives would be exposed this generation.  The thing here is I know there is zero chance of "cross pollination" so it has to be the recessives.

My little chicks  are fully feathered now and have learned to come to the side of the tractor when I have been picking strawberries and have extras! :eat:
